Flash Flood Warning for Buchanan County, Va. and McDowell County, W.Va. Through 9:30 PM EDT

# Flash Flood Warning for Buchanan County, Va. and McDowell County, W.Va. Through 9:30 PM EDT
Grundy, Va. — The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northeastern Buchanan County in southwestern Virginia and west-central McDowell County in southern West Virginia, in effect until 9:30 PM EDT Friday.
**What is happening:** At 8:05 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges showed heavy rain that has already moved through the warned area. Between an inch and a half and two and a half inches of rain has already fallen, with up to a half inch more possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or about to begin.
**Local impacts:** Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, and other low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Places in the path include Bradshaw, Hurley, Roseann and Jolo. The hill country around Buchanan and McDowell counties has hundreds of low-water crossings that become dangerous in heavy rain.
**What to do:**
- Turn around, don't drown when you meet a flooded road.
- Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
- Most flood deaths occur in vehicles — if you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
- If you can do so safely, report flooding to the National Weather Service at 800-401-9535.
