Flash Flood Warning for Brown, Jackson and Nemaha Counties Through 6:00 PM

# Flash Flood Warning for Brown, Jackson and Nemaha Counties Through 6:00 PM
**Northeastern Kansas —** Flash flooding is underway across three northeastern Kansas counties, and the National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a Flash Flood Warning through 6:00 PM CDT Thursday.
**What is happening:** At about 1:45 PM CDT, Doppler radar showed showers and thunderstorms dumping heavy rain over Brown County, northeastern Jackson County and southeastern Nemaha County. Between a half inch and two inches of rain have already fallen, and another inch is possible before the rain lets up. Flash flooding is ongoing or about to begin.
**Local impacts:** Small creeks and streams are rising fast, and urban streets, highways, underpasses and low-lying spots could flood without much warning.
**What to do:**
- Never drive through a flooded road — turn around, don't drown.
- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so get off the road before water starts rising.
- If you live near a creek or low spot, head to higher ground now.
