Flash Flood Warning for Broward County Through 2:15 AM

Broward County, FL — The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northern Broward County, in effect until 2:15 AM EDT Sunday.
What is happening: Thunderstorms are parked over northern Broward County and dumping heavy rain. Doppler radar shows between 2.5 and 4 inches have already fallen, and rain is coming down at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour. Another 1 to 3 inches could fall before the storms move out. Flash flooding is already underway in some spots and expected to begin shortly in others. Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point, and Hillsboro Beach are all in the warned area.
Local impacts: Small creeks and streams are rising fast. Expect flooded streets, highways, and underpasses, along with standing water in urban areas, low-lying neighborhoods, and anywhere drainage is poor. Water can cover a road in minutes when rain falls this hard.
What to do:
- Never drive through a flooded road. Most flood deaths happen in vehicles — turn around, don't drown.
- Be extra careful after dark. It is much harder to see floodwater at night, and you may not recognize the danger until it is too late.
- Keep away from flooded creeks and drainage ditches. Just six inches of fast-moving water can knock you off your feet.
- If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
