Flash Flood Warning for Broward County Through 11:00 PM

Broward County, Florida — The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northern Broward County in southeastern Florida, in effect until 11:00 PM EST Tuesday, November 3.

What is happening:

Thunderstorms dropping heavy rain moved across the warned area Tuesday evening, and radar showed between 2 and 3 inches of rain had already fallen by 8:57 PM EST. Another 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall on top of that, and flash flooding is happening now or expected to start shortly. The warning covers northern Broward County, including Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Coconut Creek, Oakland Park, Sea Ranch Lakes, Twin Lakes, Boca Pointe, and surrounding communities.

Local impacts:

Flash flooding can hit small creeks and streams, city streets, highways, underpasses, and other low-lying spots that drain poorly. Roads in the warned area can flood quickly, and water levels can rise fast where heavy rain keeps falling over the same neighborhoods.

What to do:

- Never drive through a flooded road. Turn around, do not drown — most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

- Be extra careful at night, when it is harder to see how deep floodwater is.

- If water starts rising around you, get to higher ground right away.

- Stay away from creeks, streams, and drainage areas during the warning.
