# Flash Flood Warning for Black Hawk, Butler, Grundy and Tama Counties Through 10:45 AM

**Black Hawk County, Iowa —** The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of central and northeastern Iowa, covering Grundy County, northern Tama County, southeastern Butler County and Black Hawk County. The warning is in effect through 10:45 AM CDT Thursday.

**What is happening:** Heavy thunderstorms moved through overnight, and both Doppler radar and automated rain gauges showed the downpours continuing at about 4:38 AM. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, and the rain is coming down at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, with another 1 to 2 inches possible. Flash flooding is happening in some spots and is expected to begin shortly elsewhere.

**Local impacts:** Watch for flash flooding along small creeks and streams, in city neighborhoods, across highways, streets and underpasses, and in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Fast-rising water can surprise morning commuters — low spots can go under in minutes.

**What to do:**

- Turn around, don't drown — never drive onto a flooded road. If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.

- Most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so be aware of your surroundings and don't chance it.

- Check the latest stream levels at weather.gov/desmoines/water before heading out.
