# Flash Flood Warning for Atchison and Doniphan Counties Through 8:00 PM
**Northeastern Kansas —** The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northwestern Atchison County and western Doniphan County in northeastern Kansas, in effect through 8:00 PM CDT Thursday.
**What is happening:** At about 1:53 PM CDT, Doppler radar showed thunderstorms dumping heavy rain across the warned area. Between one and one-and-a-half inches have already fallen, and another one to two inches are possible. Flash flooding is underway or about to begin.
**Local impacts:** Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, city streets, highways and underpasses, plus other low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Communities in the path include Highland, White Cloud, Denton, Severance, Huron, Leona, Fanning and Iowa Point. If you see water rising around you, get to higher ground immediately.
**What to do:**
- Never drive through flooded roadways — turn around, don't drown.
- Most flood deaths happen in cars; stay off the roads while storms keep moving through.
- Do not try to judge water depth by eye, especially after dark.
