Breaking News Update: President Biden Concludes Tour of Hurricane Milton Disaster Zone

TNW News Staff Report October 13, 2024 | 11:56 AM

Florida — President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. has wrapped up his tour of the disaster zones in Florida impacted by Hurricane Milton. Earlier today, the President held a press conference alongside FEMA Director Deanne Criswell, U.S. Energy Secretary, and local officials to discuss federal recovery efforts and the road ahead for the millions affected by the storm. During the conference, President Biden emphasized the swift federal response and ongoing support for debris removal, emergency measures, and rebuilding initiatives.

The full press conference is available online at TNWWeather.com and on Facebook, with plans to upload it soon to X. TNW News' General Manager Todd Nardone reported that the President also spent time with affected families, expressing his commitment to their recovery. In his remarks, Biden highlighted the resilience of Florida communities and assured continued federal support in the weeks and months ahead.

24/7 Coverage UpdateFollowing this press conference, Todd Nardone and VP of Weather Operations Rachel Nardone confirmed that while TNW News is ending its 24/7 live severe weather coverage, they will maintain comprehensive updates on the recovery efforts from both Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene.

“We remain committed to delivering crucial updates and recovery information for all impacted residents,” said Todd Nardone. "Though our live severe weather coverage is wrapping up, TNWWeather.com will continue to provide ongoing coverage as the federal response unfolds."

Merging of Disaster Declarations for Debris RemovalIn addition, federal officials are currently discussing the potential merging of two separate presidential disaster declarations—one for Hurricane Milton and one for Hurricane Helene. If approved, this combined declaration could speed up the federal government’s assistance for debris removal and other emergency measures. The 100% federal coverage of debris removal for a selected 90-day period within the next 120 days could help streamline efforts and reduce the burden on local governments.
