Blizzard Warning for the Southern Seward Peninsula Coast Through Early Saturday

Nome, AK — The southern coast of the Seward Peninsula is under a blizzard warning from early Friday through the first hours of Saturday, with heavy wind-driven snow on the way.
**What is happening:** The National Weather Service in Fairbanks says blizzard conditions will set in along the southern Seward Peninsula coast from 4 AM Friday through 1 AM Saturday Alaska time. Two to 6 inches of snow is expected, with gusts up to 60 mph creating whiteout conditions. The snow should change to rain early Saturday morning.
**Local impacts:** Travel could become very difficult along the coast. Strong winds could cause power outages, and blowing snow may drop visibility below a quarter mile. Coastal residents should prepare for a rough Friday.
**What to do:**
- Prepare for possible power outages — charge devices and have flashlights ready.
- Stay off the roads during the worst of the storm.
- Keep monitoring the forecast for updates as the storm approaches.
