Blizzard Warning for Lower Kobuk Valley and Baldwin Peninsula Through Saturday Morning

Kotzebue, Alaska —
## What is happening:
The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a Blizzard Warning for the Lower Kobuk Valley and the Baldwin Peninsula, in effect from 10 AM Friday until 4 AM Saturday (Alaska time). Forecasters expect true blizzard conditions to set in across western Alaska through Friday as snow and strong south winds arrive together.
## Local impacts:
Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected, but the wind is the real story — gusts up to 55 miles per hour will drive blowing snow and could drop visibility below a quarter of a mile. Travel could become very difficult. The same strong winds could knock out power in the warned areas.
## What to do:
- Travel should be restricted to emergencies only.
- If you must travel, carry a winter survival kit.
- If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle and wait for help.
